Introduction
This method will teach you one of the various methods for solving a Rubik’s Cube for speed. This is a bit more advanced than the layer by layer solution, so it is assumed that you already have some experience solving a Rubik’s Cube. If you don’t, and are just a beginner I recommend going to the How to Solve a Rubik's Cube Beginners Solution page.

2x2x2
The first step of the speed solving solution is to create a 2x2x2 square on a corner of the cube.

2x2x3
Now that we have a 2x2x2 square, we can freely move three sides of the cube with out messing up what we have already done. These three free sides are now used to expand the square into a rectangle of 2x2x3.

Correct Edges
In step three, we need to identify which edges are out of place and then correct them, using only the two free layers left. First, identify all the incorrect edges, or the edges that are twisted when between their respective middle colors. For example, if the red and green piece is turned to the red and green side and the red isn’t with the red side and green isn’t on the green side, then that is an incorrect piece. Now that you have identified the incorrect edges, you need to correct them. This really isn’t that hard because you only have two free layers to move.

2x3x3
In this step we expand what we have solved into a 2x3x3 figure, or two entire layers. Again, only use the two free layers that we have left to move the pieces around.

Rotate Corners
In this step all we do is rotate the top corners so they are in the correct position. Each piece’s colors don’t need to be on the right side, the piece just needs to be in the right spot on the cube. This is the same as Step Six of the Beginners’ Solution, with one added step: rotate the top twice at the end instead of just once.

Flip Corners
The next step is to rotate each corner piece so the colors match their sides. This is the same as Step Seven of the Beginners’ Solution.

Top Middle Pieces
Now the only thing left is the top middle pieces. This step can be a bit tricky so for interactive cubes that show how to solve each possible position for this step I recommend going here.
